I have Firestone SZ 50 EP's in 225/50ZR16's on E0 wheels and I have slight rubbing on the tie-bar under heavy cornering.
The tires look fine though, it is probably just taking characters off the raised letters.

Trust me, I've never had them rub. When I bought the car it had 225/50/16 Toyo Proxies on the front and 225/50/16 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's on the rear. Now I switched to All season 225/50/16 Bridgestone Potenza RE910's on the front. still no rubbing on any load. And I have a totally stock suspension.

I just put a set of Yokohama AVS ES100's in 225/50/16 on my E1's with stock suspension. I have a 99 CSVT. They are considered to be a "small" 225/50. Granted I haven't had them on there long but so far so good. Got them on Tirerack talk to Luke, he is the man.

My used 2000 CSVT came with BFGoodrich Geforce T/A KDWS 225/50ZR's, and they have never rubbed.

I have had 225/50R16 tires on my 98 E0 SVT since I wore the original tires out at 40,000 miles. I have had Continentals, BFG KDWS, and now Dayton Daytona ZRs on it. There has never been a clearance issue. The fit is close, but adequate.
IIRC the issue with revised fender liners didn't happen until 99, but it seemed to be from the mold not holding dimension. Not very many ever had the interference problem that the TSB was about.
Since you are dealing with a size that is not recognized as a factory fit, it would be wise to talk to the tire shop and see if they will mount them up and check for fit and remove them and sell you a different size if necessary. Most tire shops would be willing to help you with that.
The only way to be certain that they will fit YOUR car is to try them. With so many people reporting that they have done it, the odds are greatly in your favor.

The change actually occurred in 99. The 98.5's retained the same tire size (and fender liner) with the new wheel.
FWIW, when my original Eagles when kaput, I put 215/50 KDW's on the stock wheels. I have the BAT Euro Handling Kit (so this doesn't apply to your question about a stock setup), and though the 215's fit fine, I think 225's will be a pretty close fit with the car lowered. But I'll find out this spring.
