96 2.5L Dura with 75k miles
Ford was kind enough to install a new plastic pump, replace both head gaskets, new thermostat, flush etc. etc for the previous owner of my Contour. Gee, it only cost him a few thousand, and guess what the Ford dealer installed a brand new PLASTIC impeller for a repeat performance. From this site I heard of all the problems with the plastic unit so I purchased a steel one yesterday from NAPA, so as NOT to repeat the previous owners problems.
Its NAPA part # DPW125-1910 and is NEW not rebuilt. This is the GMB unit made in Japan, sold by NAPA as a DURA PRO Model, my cost $56.09, time to install less than 2 hours, very very easy, and I am an office guy into computers more than mechanics.
NAPA shows the part on their web site for $50.99, but that price varies based on where you are in the country. I am from Canada, but had to drive to Bellingham WA to get mine(26 miles), as the Canadian division of NAPA sells only the plastic unit.
Now that I have the steel impeller, I don't worry about holding 1st gear to the red line. Another trick I leant on this site is to add oil to the bottom of the M in MAX, to help the oil stavation problem with these motors.
If anyone wants a near new (white)plastic impeller pump, I'll ship it UPS air overnight for $40.00 includes the freight.
