I did a complete tune up on my 99 SVT today. I completed everything except changing the tranny fluid. I'm trying to figure out if there is a dipstick to check this or not. All the manual says is that the clutch and brakes both use the same resovior. Does the manual tranny even use regular tranny oil other than the clutch? I have no idea where I need to change this at. The owners manual doesn't help at all. Any ideas on how to change the tranny fluid for a 5 spd?
Also,
Has anyone been using Synthetic Tranny Oil successfully? I bought both regular Mercon Dextron III and some Synthentic ATX stuff. I read the manual and it said not to use Mercon V because it can cause problems to the manual transaxle. Is this BS or should I just stick with the regular AT fluid?

1 little thing MTX's do not have trans fluid dipsticks. Only ATX's have them. Not much help to you, but I thought I should let you know..

brakes and clutch use the same fluid because the clutch is hydralic...... as for the transaxle fluid...read the post above about the tranny cocktail

it seems you are trying to mix up two things: clutch uses the same brake fluid as the brake system, but: MTX uses ATX fluid for lubrication. you shouldn't mix the two see FAQ about MTX coctail or use Chrisler ATX fluid as per Big Jim

no dipstick in our mtx's. add until it starts dripping out of the fill hole, then it's full.

To add fluid, you had to remove the apeedometer gear. The speedo gear acted as a dipstick, according to the shop manual.

the fill port of the MTX is located on the front of the tansmision housing and has a 6 point internally whenching plug (allen wrench) It can be seen from looking rearward from the driverside of the front bumper.
The drain port uses the same size allen wrench as the fill and is located on the rear of the transmission housing near the driverside drive axle. *note, you may have to move the oxygen sensor harness clamp to gain access to the plug*
You will need to have a minimum of 3 quarts of ATF for manual transmision fluid change.
and yes, proper filling of the tansmission is done with the car level and fluid added until it drains from the fill port.
