Has anyone had problems with the power window motors/regulators? A while back my passenger window started making a cracking noise when it was being rolled up. The dealer said the motor/regulator needed to be replaced. Since they wanted $310 per door I didn't let them do it. Since then the cable has broken and two other doors are making the same sound. So I really do need to replace the motor regulator now. Has anyone performed this task? Any info would be great. Thanks

Only did 1 on the tour, easy to do. I bought the part from Bill in Vegas mainly because I didn't know how bad the part would be when I got the panel off. Costs about 120 bucks and took just over a 1/2 hour. Having taken the panel apart once to install the speakers helped, I remembered how to remove the plugs and found all the screws.

I did my passenger window regulator. It took me about 2 hours, but I took my time, and it was one of the first repairs that I ever made on a car. I got the part for ~ $130 (including shipping) at http://www.fordpartsonline.com.

Here are some threads on the topic:

If you don't have a Haynes or Chiltons manual, then I suggest that you get one.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I actually have the ford shop manual from helm so I should be okay. I am not really worried about doing the task. I was trying to determine what things to look out for and what not to do.
Upon inspection, the mechanic at the dealer only installed two of the three bolts assuming they actually removed the regulator when they inspected it. I assume that the regulator does not come with installation hardware and that I can get a bolt at either an auto parts or hardware store. If not two bolts should work fine.
