On the Escape. It would not fit under the hood on a Contour.
Fiber glass + hood = Cowl, possibly cowl induction

That's the last thing I would worry about if I could get it to work. Hell, fabricating a new hood to fit would be fun as well .

Dare me! I will if you do! I was looking at that for the longest time at all angles and I don't think its possbile with my budjet. It's a simple PTO box that connects to the right hand side axle and mounts to the tranny (CD4E or the G5M-R, which is the mtx tranny that the escape uses). But the hardest part would probably finding out a way to get rest of the 4x4 system under a Contour. I dont think there is enough ground clearance, unless you don't mind having a contour with the ground clearance of a 4x4! Probably end looking something that that Porsche suv that just came out....

Actually, if you pull the stock gas tank and made a saddle-style tank, you should be able to fit it. Cardoc was looking at the AWD of the jaguar S-type and they have a simple PTO on it as well. Then it has a driveline with carrier bearing to the rear diff. The jaguar has a much more comprehensive rear end with stronger parts than the escape has. I would prefer to get the cheaper more common escape parts since it may be more compatible with our suspension setup than the jag. Do you know what the torque split on the escape is? The jag has a 60/40 rear/front split and the rear suspension is much beefier than the escape. The escape is probably the opposite with a 60/40 front/rear or something like that. Since I am installing my turbo right now, I am looking into the possibility of the AWD setup to get the power to the ground. $$$$$$ But it will be fun trying Oh yeah, I DARE YA! warmonger

Anyone want to finance fitting the AWD system to my car? I bet I can get a sub 2.2 60' time with one of those!

Hmm, anyone think my wife would miss the rear suspension off of her Escape? I've all ready got my tour torn down maybe I should try! LOL She's pretty understanding about the car, but I don't think I better try doing anything fishy to her Escape.

yeah, she'll still have two front wheels to drive with! AND you can be generous and give here the rear suspension from your contour to replace it with. warmonger
