I have an Autometer Phantom electric oil pressure guage tapped into the head. When the car is cold it reads 50-75 PSI, but when the car warms up it will only read a max of 25 PSI as WOT. The sending unit is huge, and it will not fit behind the A/C Compressor. Are my readings so low because of it being in the head, or is my oil pressure really that low?

could you run a line off the block fitting behind the ac compressor to the electric sending unit that you bracket mount to the core support? use pressure fittings and such? i was told that mechanical was more accurate? anyone else like my idea?

Yeah I think you could do it....maybe using copper line from the compression fiting back behind the A/C compressor and coming out to a more "roomy" spot where you could use another compression fitting and expand back out to a NPT style union that you could screw a sender unit into...

See....the pressure reading is not consistant! So how can you really trust it? There is no way the oil pressure in the mains would ever fall that low - it would mean curtains for your engine if it did!

Your pressure readings are so low because of tapping into the head instead of the block........

Stazi,

thats kinda what I was trying to get at earlier. Do you know of any other places us electrical gauge users could tap into besides the head?

Like I said, if you could use the normal compression fitting and an elbow, you could bend up som copper pipe to bring it out and away from the A/C compressor, then you could connect up another compression fitting again so that you could expand out to an NPT female connector so you could plug your fitting in.

Do you get what I am saying?? I am not sure if I am clear. You can call me if you want to ask me - send me a PM and I will give you my cell phone number....

Yeah I understand. I've always wondering if extending anything like that would be accurate, but guess that would be more accurate than the head.

Yes, it would be accurate as the pressure in that elaborate "manifold" would be identical the the pressure at the point in the block where it was tapped......
