can feel it through the steering wheel...through to 75 mph...new tires, and pressure is correct. Is this alignment? Sorry for the stupidity, but I usually ride the subway!

At first I thought you said 88 miles an hour, to which I would've replied that you needed to check/replace your flux capacitor j/k

Since you mention getting new tires, it is entirely possible that they aren't balanced properly. The shop that installed them needs to make sure they are balanced, so you might want to try taking it back and asking them to check.

I suppose so. Usually if your alignment is off you'll notice the car pulling to one side or the other if you let go of the wheel on a perfectly flat road (heh, find me one of those around here )

I recently had my alignment done, and after 4 years and 55000 miles, my left front was off by a little bit, but nothing major. And that's after two minor accidents and clipping a curb in the snow. If you get it checked out, make sure you take it somewhere where they won't rape you (or charge you at all) just to have it checked. If its really bad, then get it done. Even if it isn't the cause of the vibration you can reduce tire wear if the alignment is way off.

i would agree..maybe one wheel and tire didnt have the correct weight put on during the balance....shaking in the steering wheel usually means wheel balance prob..

This has happened to me a couple of times. The steering wheel would shake between 75 and 83 mph. THIS LAST TIME (2 DAYS AGO), my whole car body started to shake badly. Tires are balanced, and alignment is good. Took the car in for service and had the tires rotated. Each time it cured the problem. Now my steering wheel is fine at all speeds. Go figure! BTW, took a 300 mile trip with no problems; then suddenly the wheel shake described above started up. I did not remember hitting any large potholes or bumping any curbs. I really wish I knew what causes the shaking to suddenly happen, and how to cure it, other than having the tires rotated. I wonder if the 4-lug bolt pattern is too loose for our wheels. Hmmmmmm....?
