I hate to be an arse, but mine is identical to that model. Minus one wall that I felt was unnecessary. It took me an afternoon to design it. I don't know where they get their aluminium(prob better quality than mine), but I spent about 15$ for the raw materials and an hour to make one. The prices could be slightly lower IMO...

I totally agree thats why I asked how they got their pricing. I work at home depot and you could pick up all the materials very cheap. Also I know it took some time to design it but once you made one it doesn't take time to prodce more because all of the rest will be based off that first design. IMO that is a really big rip off and I'll either make my own or just live with the heat soak for 3 months of the year because it cold fo the rest of the year where I live . jerry

I think you are all being unfair here. you can't even buy the Sho-shop heat sheild seperate...and they want $149 plus shipping for their sheild w/MAF adapter/K&N. The base sheild is only $49...the $79 one is the ceramic clear coat. Plus...as been stated before...development time = cost. Cost has to be recouped before profit can be made.
The sheild..for what it is...seems to me to be a worth while mod. Cost isn't that high compared to other items for our cars. You expect people to develop mods for our cars which are a defunct platform...then when they do...[censored] and complain that it ain't free...
Go ahead then...go to Home Depot...buy the materials...and make your own. But you all piss and moan to the extent that you chase away development.

I'm not tring to be a dick but I still haven't got a straight answer all I've got is time=money yeah thats all well and good so I guess thats my answer. And yes you can find everything at the Home Depot! Jerry

If you don't like it don't buy it. If you think it cost too much then don't buy it. Maybe they are planning on using any proceeds there may be to fund R&D for their next 'Contique project. Maybe they just want to make a buck. You just don't know. The free market will dictate the success of this product.

it isn't even expensive if you figure the price of a shoshop intake is $149 and that includes a short 1 wall heatshield. K-, now you can get a KKM intake without heatshield for $96, then add $65 for a full heatshield (coated) and you're paying $161 ($12 more than the shoshop) for a FULL Temp treated heatshield. I will be buying one in the coming months for sure.

I can't believe this threat. Let them sell their product for the price they want. Its hard enough buying Contour parts that work. They set the price, they deserve it. Make your own, if you want to, but don't crap on their idea/product. Your negative comments discourage others from buying their product, and discourage the shade tree innovators out here.
Do you complain at Wal-mart about their prices?
Anyone knows, just ask bnoon, stazi, micah, etc about trying to sell contour products on the CEG. I wouldn't make a product that I would just break even, would you? My time is worth $25/hr. So If it takes an hour to build with $25 of materials, I would sell it no less than 50% markup or $75, plus shipping.

OK, ship me one for $20. Actually, ship me 5 for $100. I will buy it, make sure the ceramic coating is done well, and that it fits right. After the third one, with no profit, you will wonder why you settled on $20 and not $80.
