The shield seals to the hood without any resistance or binding. The rubber gasket we use is quite "tall" and seals up as well as it can be sealed against the contours of the hood. It actually fits really well.

Yes you can paint over the ceramic coating as long as you use a high temp paint.

Check the website for specifics on what is available finish wise.

Has anyone heard anything from DtecTuning recently? I am starting to get concerned because they missed their schedule and have not provided an explanation or responded to my email yet.

Background:

5 Feb 03: Paid DtecTuning $72.99 via PayPal

6 Feb 03: Received e-mail from Chad stating that the shields are finished but require coating. ??I should have your shield done and ready to ship by the middle of next week. I will e-mail you on Monday and let you know for sure when it will ship. Then you will receive a third e-mail with a UPS tracking number."

10 Feb 03: Its Monday, no email from Chad.

13 Feb 03: Sent email asking if any progress on my heat shield.

15 Feb 03: No reply to email yet. Decided to post this here to see if anyone else is having similar experience.

For the Record, I know that starting a new product line can be a very stressful event for a small business. There are always little details and delays that don??t show up until it comes time to deliver. Given this, I am willing to be very generous with my patience, a week or so or even more of a delay is not going to affect my project one bit, its all for fun anyway.

However, there is no excuse when a business misses a date and does not at least acknowledge it to the customer - even if that date is just for communications (??I will e-mail you on Monday?)

Chad, I believe you have every intent of shipping my heatshield and probably have a pretty good reason for any delays. Despite this, if you don??t let your paid customers know what is going on, it is bound to raise suspicion. Please relieve my concerns by letting me (and the rest of CEG) know what is happening.

All ordered shields ship on Monday. I started a new job this week and Chad is being shipped out of town by his job to Indiana for two weeks on short notice so we've run into some unforseen time issues. To add to this Chad's hard drive crashed which has taken a few days to sort out.

All ordered shields will be shipped on Monday via UPS 3 Day Select. I'll email tracking #'s to the buyers on Monday.

Sorry for the delay and lack of communication!! As you stated this was our first run and we hit a few snags along the way. It should all be taken care of now. Thanks for your patience.

I was just wondering why the price is what it is? How much are materials? Because that does seem like a high price for what it is. I know you've tested it and all that but i just want to know how you came up with that pricing? Thanks,
Jerry

Very much agreed. The big problem with a lot of CEG'ers is that they forget that TIME IS MONEY. The materials may not cost a lot, but I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to R&D the heatshield to fit properly and then bring it to production status.

Being that we live in a world of economies of scale, it is easy to find certain products for relatively low prices. The problem is that the CDW-27 is a defunct platform with a relatively small enthusiast market. When a new product is designed for our market, the developing company has to take into account that they will not receive a huge amount of orders. To make up for small volume, the developer has to raise his margin somewhat...I mean these are the basic principles of economics here, Dtec is not trying to rip off CEG'ers, they're just trying to recoup their time and effort while getting a little return (probably much smaller than you think) for their effort.

Sorry for the rant, but it is quite obvious why we don't (and won't for that matter) have any kind of aftermarket to speak of. When suppliers don't see a chance at making a profit, they aren't going to offer products. I learned my lesson the hard way and sometimes regret the investment I made. I am very grateful to those that have purchased my shift boots, but I have not made enough sales to break even yet! There were plenty of people who originally said they would purchase them, but only about 1/4 of the original number ended up buying any product from me. It's very disconcerting and I'm sure that this feeling has made other suppliers very weary of doing any work for our platform.
