My left turn signal started blinking really fast. I assumed that meant I had a burnt out bulb, but I checked both front and rear lights and they're fine, except that the rear one doesn't blink. I'm guessing that I have one of two possible problems:

1. The rear bulb is on its way out and isn't generating enough wattage to operate the flasher.
2. The switch is dirty or defective.

So my question is this: do these seem like reasonable possibilities, and if #2, where exactly is the switch so I can get at it?

Light bulb is burned out. Just replace it and you should be fine.

When it blinks fast its called the Bulb Out Detector or something like that, just to let you know that one is out.

So are you saying that the bulb lights up but doesn't blink? Try swapping the left & right side bulbs and see if the problem stays on the left side or goes to the right side. That should give a better idea of it being the bulb or switch that's bad.

Hopefully it's the bulb, since their only ~$2 for a pair at pepboys.

the same thing is happening to me this week - i thought the rear bulb was burned out but then it would start to work normally
it started to do it again this am so i got out of the car and hit the taillight with the palm of my hand and it started to work properly
my guess is the rear bulb has a bad connection
i bet if you/we clean the rear bulb and check the connection we'll find the problem

The taillight bulb is a dual filament bulb right? so maybe just one of them burnt out.

If the little springs in the bottom of the socket are too flat, it will make the problem happen every now and then.

I want to be the one to reccomend LEDs! laugh

i'm having that problem too..my contacts are coroded though..i have to clean them.
