That's exactly what happened to me, except I got the motor out of there before the knock turned into a spun bearing.

SHO Shop charges $1400 for their "prepped" block, then you have to pay someone to rebuild your motor (or do it yourself). Better options exist. Brad Noon, Terry Haines, junkyard engine, rebuild engine. At least if you get a junk/rebuild engine you are only paying for out & in, instead of complete disassembly along with the out & in.

Some get-the-car-mobile-again parts & labor bids are below. Approximate total pricing = no extra goodies, no peripherals replaced, not incl. tax, license, acts of God, etc. etc.
(required replacements like gaskets & plugs are included in these prices, but the cost of a rental car {eeeeww! indeed} for 2-3 weeks, plus towing, is not):

local SVT dealer (to swap in a rebuilt long block): ~$5800 Warranty: 2 yrs/24K mi. parts only

local engine rebuilder (to rebuild my present engine): ~$4800 Warranty: 1 yr/12K mi. parts and labor

SHOshop (to do their $1499 3L hybrid): ~$3800-$4000 Warranty: 1 yr/12K mi. parts and labor

local salvage supplier (to swap in a salvaged '98 engine): ~$3700 Warranty: 1 yr/12K mi. parts and labor

Of these four, SHOshop is looking like the best option. Let's see if anything else turns up...

98ContourSVT,
You are obviously doing some homework here. One other thing to really consider is the build level of the engine. Swapping and cleaning parts like oil pans, rocker covers, front covers takes time and translates into increased labor costs versus a more complete engine. Also, small parts like new spark plugs, oil filter, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets, and front cover gaskets will bring up the costs quickly with the service counter mark-up. The above can make a more complete engine not as expensive as you think.

I think my engine is about to blow up too. How much would the total cost and labor be if someone was to have Mr. Terry Haines or Mr. Brad Noon fix the entire thing? 3L swap and all...

Hey, that's a sixty-four thousand dollar question. How much for a relacement with swap figured in? I'd rethink 86'ing my tour if a swap was properly done at a decent price. The only problems w/this car seem to be in the engine, last place you'd expect when you paid SVT extra for it (and boy that warranty goes fast-grrr) Great car, otherwise...if anyone has a quote for a swap, I'm at jaxter@megsinet.net.

98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....

BNM 3 liter page has most of the info needed for a BNM 3 liter.

Option 1. Get a 3 liter salvage engine delivered to me and rebuilt for under a grand in parts, plus $300 assembly labor, plus shipping of the short block to you (around $100).

Option 2. Get a 3 liter salvage engine delivered to me and rebuilt for under a grand in parts, plus $1500 labor for the install.

Brad,I think your $1500 labor will be too high for jaxter, he thinks the motors just 'fall out' and 'fall in' and are 'plug in and play'!!! wink
