federal laws says you can't touch the cat, that is unless something is wrong with it. not sure about relocation, but i'm sure you can do it legally, though what inspector would know?? if you can't find a shop that'll touch your cat then you can take a hammer and beat the crap outta your stock cat, then legally they can change it. or you can move to one of the over 100 counties in georgia that don't check those kind of things. (no federal agents come around searching car exhausts )

I got a full set of pictures from them a while ago. The main problem is that the Focus Zetec's oil pan is very shallow right next to the transmission. By having it shallow there, the header can run straight down and under the engine. On the Contour, our oil pan is shallow near the main pulley. Out exhast has to curve to the passenger side of the car THEN go under the engine. In other words, the second sectionof that header would have to be completely re-done for our cars. Either that or you would have to get a focus oil pan and oil pump if that is even possible. The good news is that there is a big heat shield piece in front of the stock resonator. It looks like this was meant for an alternate cat location. I sure would have liked the cat there from the factory! BP

Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

Weren't there some early models with two cats, or something?

if you are talking stock exhaust I am not sure of that. I have a very early Mystique, build date in 94 and it only has one cat on it
- 95 Mystique LS - Zetec/5spd
- 99 Contour SeVT Sport - Duratec/5spd
