Two weeks ago, my SE v-6 ran really hot with the needle almost to the red. I turned it off immediately and got toed home. I just assumed it was the water pump since it has 83k miles. So, I ordered a waterpump off of carparts.com. Well 2 weeks later and it still isnt here. SO I started to get antsy...I went for a test drive in the car to see how quickly it got hot...I drove for 20 mins in stop go traffic and the temp never got over the normal temp where the thremostat opens. So my question is, could the initial overheating be a freak occourence, or should I not turn my wife loose in it until I replace the waterpump?
Thanks

As long as the heater pipes warm up as normal chances are its not the pump...check the t/stat..

terry, what happens to the broken impeller pieces on the v6 water pumps. i have replaced three different pumps on three different cars and never find any pieces. could one of these pieces be blocking his t-stat?

Could still be the waterpump. When mine went, it heated up when revs @ 3K+. I was able to drive home at low speed and it seemed to cool ok. When I took it off, the impeller was still in one piece, but spinning on its shaft!!. Guess at low revs it still turned enough to cool but when hammer down, the shaft just spun around inside the impeller. Hope this helps.
