Currently, I have 2 IDQ 12" v2's sharing 1.1 cuft3. Together they present a 2 ohm load to my amp which feeds them 600 watts total. At first I was very happy with this set up, but now I really miss the deep low end.

Hoping not to sacrifice output, my new idea is to seal one side of the box and use just one sub, giving it the full 1.1 cuft3. Using one IDQ, my amp will see 4 ohms and only put out 400 watts . I don't think this will be loud enough for my taste.

With 600 watts @ 2ohms and a 1.1 cuft3 box what speaker will give me the most output?

Have you thought about a new box? You could go ported and gain some low bass output.

The box totally is customized for the space it is in and I recently moved into an apartment and no longer have my tools. The most I could do is add a port and attach a new front baffle on top the old.

Dave, you are the guru. You must have some suggestions.

what is the power handeling of the subs

the jbl1200.1 will put out 600 to each sub??
that might help some,

then seal both enclosures

Dave, what if I kept one 12", ran it a 4 ohms (400 watts)and ported the 1.1 cuft3 box? Would this give me output comparable to what I have now, but with better SQ?

the problem with porting somehting that small is the ports need to be extremely long. i'm still thinking....:)

I personally think that sealed boxes have better sound quality. I really don't think losing 200 watts and half of your cone surface area is going to compare to what you have now. If I was to use just one sub, I would get a high excursion sub like an eclipse aluminum or the like that has a 2 ohm load. I used to run one of those at 1.5 ohm with about 400 watts and it was pretty loud, but I can't imagine it being as loud as what you have now.

So do you guys think going to a 4 ohm DVC will be my best option. I could probably sell my 2 IDQs for $150 and buy something else.

The size of the enclosure is what is going to ultimately hinder the deep bass. 1.1 cu feet is awfully small. If you get a sub that plays deeper, it will do so with less with less overall output.
