I don't know the specifics of the changes but I believe they relate to the pressure relief valve. Anyway, the current pump works all the way back to the first Duratechs.

Time to look into extending your warranty. Considering you'll have a renewed engine there should be no reason to ditch the car yet. However when I had my ztec replaced by an inferior dealership (18 day replacement on a 8 hour job) multipul things went wrong shortly after. Replaced 3 cv joints within 1000km's and had to have the sway bar adjusted. I think these were related somehow since they put the engine in from underneath the car. When I challenged them on why I was charged for the sway bar problem they told me the engine was put in through the top of the car. (something the mechanic said was not true) Anyways I paid for the sway bar repair $75 and the warranty paid for the rest. Point to the story is if it ain't put back together right in the first place it may need some tweeking afterwards. An extended warranty is good piece of mind any way you cut it.

If you really like the car...ask your dealer about buying an extended warranty before your basic one expires.

Just an update.... Ford replaced my blown engine with a rebuilt one and provided a 24 month/24000 mile warranty. I was disappointed that it wasn't a brand new engine but the dealership claims that Ford will supply a new engine only within the first 12 months. After that, they will use a rebuilt engine. Interestingly, they will provide only a 12 month/12000 mile warranty on a brand new engine.

Anyway, the 'tour is back on the road and it runs fine with the new engine. Think it's time to look into that extended warranty program....

Thanks to all who posted.

Somebody posted it here a while ago that a rebuilt engine is better than a new one in that a rebuilt engine will be tested before shipping whereas a new engine may never be tested unless it is picked off the assemblt line.

Makes sense...good luck anyway.

Marko, whoever posted that doesn't know much about what goes on in Ford engine assembly plants. Every plant that I know of runs every engine through a short test cycle. Sampling of production engines is also done where they are put through much more extensive testing.

I'm glad my engine is doing fine so far...although, I always have my basic maintenance done at my dealership so that when something does go wrong, I can blame them...

You certainly seem to like to post on things like assembly line processes and oil pump re-designs. Do you work for Ford? Because, so far I haven't seen you back any of these statements up.

BTW- its spelled Duratec, not Duratech
