i remember sept 11 vividly. and a friend of mine from school died in one of the towers, so please don't preach to me about that.

we need to destroy the REGIME, without destroying the country. that is my point. hopefully our president feels the same way.

A different reaction from others in Iraq:

From MSNBC:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/868002.asp?0dm=C24CN

No official government statement was released, but Bushra al-Samarai, a member of the Iraqi National Assembly said Iraqis sent their condolences to the American public.
"We are people who love other people, al-Samarai said. We respect [American] feelings and share their sadness over this tragic incident."
National Assembly speaker Gen. Ghalib Jassim also voiced sympathy for the space shuttle tragedy, but with a reminder that Iraq feels under siege from the same stricken America.
"We are friends for the American people, said Jassim, a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. We don't have anything against the American people as people. The problem is between us and the American administration."

Some of you should really sit back and think about what you're saying. Turn an entire country to glass because the few in power are madmen? By that logic, someone should've nuked the US a long time ago for the stuff that our government has done (without popular support of the people) in the past and continues to do now.

I'm no peace-loving hippy or anything. Take the regime out of power, don't kill the innocents. Otherwise that makes us no better than the people responsible for the tragedy on 9/11.

Why do you guys think we build more and more accurate weapons? It's far cheaper to carpet-bomb the [censored] out of a target with thousand-pound iron bombs than it is to send 2 multi-million dollar pieces of ordinance that are more exact. The goal is to 1) hit the target and 2) do it with minimal collateral damage. You know how cheap a thousand-pound iron bomb is?

The whole purpose of war is to remove the ability of your enemy to do what they continue to do despite you telling them not to. (at its most basic level). This can mean killing, disarming, destroying weapons or just demoralizing them.

Am I pissed off that one guy said they were 'Happy' that Columbia blew up? Hell yes. But understand that from their perspective, /we/ are the bad guys. I'm sure we'd be cheering if Iraq had a space program and lost some astronauts when their craft blew up on re-entry too. Try putting the shoe on the other foot. Be angry, but don't be rash.

Knowing i'll probably get flamed for this! Don't mean to jump on anyone's toes, but this is my outlook on the presidency.

Well I guess this just means the Bush's know how to take care of business. You didn't see Clinton jump up and threaten war when they first tried to take down the WTC buildings. IF it were Clinton right now we would be firing missles into some rocks and sand! Yes you can tell I am republican!

When we're (safely?) a few miles outside of Baghdad, and Saddam plans to let loose the poison gas (on his own citizens and troops, to the degree the Republican Guards and his special cadre would not have chemical suits)... how about we pull the neutron bomb out of mothballs??? All the buildings are saved so we don't have to rebuild infrastructure, no fused glass to clean up. His own populace would have been poisoned by him anyway, and his family/troops/power structure gets to see how their bunny suits don't work on radiation.

I donâ??t think the Iraqis hate the Americans and wish them harm. Donâ??t support American policies "most likely" especially when they are threatened by an attack. They are ruled by a tyrant that will kill anyone that doesnâ??t agree with him. Do you guys really think that an Iraqi with the right frame of mind will say anything supporting the US to a reporter? If he/she did I wonder how long it takes before Saddam executes that person and the rest of his family.
Iâ??m only asking you guys to see things a little differently, and maybe a different approach can be taken to remove Saddam and spare the the lives of 1000s of innocent people.

we could pretend we're the Romans and have Saddam and Osama fight to the death. and then just have a hungry tiger eat whoever wins.
