sadly, i think we need to make a decision on this war very soon. if not for political reasons, for economic ones. if we keep lingering in the "threat mode" without actually doing something, our economy will shrivel to nothing and take twice as long to recover.

as for "Iraq's" comments. the government there is run by a very small, but very powerful religious minority. the actual people of Iraq are pushed around the countryside like a herd of cattle. it's a very sad state of affairs for them. either they abide by Saddam's rules and live in poverty, or be killed. the other option is for us to infuse a "modern" democratic form of governemt which may or may not affect their religious beliefs. from what i remember, the religious/social majority adheres to a far stricter form of Islam than the minority. there needs to be some careful, post-war balancing done to keep everyone happy without making it seem like we're trying to destroy Islam.
