I was sitting in my 2nd grade classroom watching the lift off with my class as it happened. I remember the chaos that ensued as the teachers tried to figure out where to go from there and how to cope with what happened. It was very surreal (not that I knew that word at the time), but I remember feeling very shocked. After watching more of the coverage the whole school went outside and gathered around the flag pole as the flag was lowered to half mast.
They keep talking about how we all remember where we were when the challenger exploded, but what is amazing is that there is a whole group of kids (16 and younger) out there that were not alive when it happened.
