You know they were just talkin' about the Challenger exploding, that was 17 years ago and I was in 5th hour English when we heard the news, I was in 10th grade. Our prayers and thoughts go out to their friends and family.

To tell you the truth, I find it hard to believe they'll find any remains... Anything would probably have been vaporized under that extreme heat.

On the news just now I heard that they've found what they believe to be 4 sets of human remains. The crew compartment was incredibly well-protected. I just hope that they at least lost consciousness when the ship was lost and didn't have to suffer as the Challenger crew likely did.

At Mach 18.3 and 207,135 feet (IIRC that is what NASA said the altitude at loss of contact was) I think death was rather instantaneous.

Physics may not change, but designs do become better. All of the shuttles are extremely old as in stress on parts, and the design is very old. There are better designs for a Reusable Space Vehicle, but NASA does not have the funding to complete them. Hopefully this trajedy will change that.

I hope they went quickly.

i saw the vid of the helmet...they were reporting it to have landed in a graveyard...that is too weird but i dont know if thats factual

meanwhile, i listened to an anchor on cnbc i think it was ask a really dumb question earlier this morning...

talking to a former challenger astronaut, he mentioned how his 9yr old said 'i dont think i still want to be an astronaut'...understandable...then the anchor asked if college kids with hopes of joining nasa would be scared off by the events...

finally he hit a homer with..."...did u find yourself glad to be on the ground today?" ...i would have walked right out of the studio after a question like that...and i bet he thought he was being extremely sensitive
