A moment of silence for those who are lost, May they be found.
I hope this moment of silence wasn't necessary and they return home safely from their voyage.

I guess CEG (not everyone) will not have that same reaction as on 9-11. Just remember when you watch that footage, that you are watching people die. Show some respect. Please.

This totally sucks. May the astronauts rest in peace. In reply to above: It was a piece of insulating foam that came off during take-off and hit the wing, but a press release said that it was determined not to have caused any serious damage.

This is sad. My condolences to their families.
Apparently this is the first time in 42 years that a shuttle has been lost during re-entry. Just as NASA was trying to make a push to revive the program.

Right. I believe it was insulating foam from one of the fuel tanks IIRC. You can bet that it will be scrutinized now. My theory (think hindenburg) The insulation that came off of the fuel tank during liftoff left a weak spot. The ship was not fully protected from static electricity. Upon re-entry, the now weakened ship traveled through atmosphere that was heavily charged with electricity. A wayward lightning bolt found its way to ground itself on the fuel tank... This is just terrible.

IMHO Now is the time that NASA needs to reevaluate the vehicles they are using for these missions. They are two decades old. No matter how much upkeep they get, nothing could hold up to the stress of that many missions. I know back in '86 that NASA was thinking of ending the space program due to the Challenger explosion. I can only hope that they will reevaluate the entire space program to keep this from happening again. This just proves that no matter how advanced our technology is, space is still one of the many frontiers we have yet to conquer.
