I got some oil today (Valvoline Durablend 5w-30)and a fram filter. I took my adjustible wrench and measured the size - looked like 7/16's, but that wouldn't fit, so I went to the next size up - 5/8's and that was way too loose. So (frustraded) I took the adjustable wrench to it, it wouldn't budge. I was afraid that if I tried too hard that I'd strip it, so I stopped. Ford is the one that put the bolt on last time, I thought that your only suppose to have 25# of tourque on it or so, this is on there REALLY tight. Oh yeah and you gotta love that header right behind the oil drain bolt, so I couldn't get a socket in there. I need HELP!!

One more thing, I didn't use a lift or a jack, I just crawled under the car and tried to get it (getting under that SVT bumper is HARD), but can't budge it, do I need it on a jack for more leverage??

Best advice I can give you is get a set of jackstands. Also the bolt is metric and a 13MM. Most of the bolts on the car are metric. Just FYI.

They tighten it like that so you won't change it yourself also they air wrench them on most of the time.

Hmmm Cool, I didn't know that...

I do have jack stands, but I have that SVT bumper, and It'll scrape the paint right off of there (I think) Anyone w/ an SVT tried to put it on jackstands without any damage?? I'm just real concerned about my 2 month old paintjob.

I have and use jackstands all the time. I jack the car with a small floor jack (could use spare jack maybe, if it raises the car high enough) right where the owner's manual says to lift for replacing tires and then position the jackstand on the "frame rails" and remove the jack. Doesn't hurt any paint at all.

The problem is your car just doesn't want a FRAM filter put on it... eek Don't blame it wink

Most likely the drain plug was just overtightened last time it was changed.

Yes it is metric (as is 98% of the other nuts & bolts)

Don't forget to change the plug gasket too. Nylon works the best for this application. This could also be another reason why it is so tight.

I do not need to use jackstands to change my oil. I have no problem reaching the drain plug or filter.

You have a problem, I have a solution, get a 13 mm wrench, turn it so it if facing UP, get a rubber mallot and tap on it, it will come right off after a few taps... I change oil all day every day, you learn these little things laugh

The bolt is a 15mm NOT a 13. Repeat: 15mm

agreed. and also, use a box-end 6-point wrench. that way you can get a better grip on it and don't risk stripping the bolt head.

Ahh...Sorry I thought the Zetec's Bolt and the Duratec are the same. Yes! use a 6 point box end. If you use the 12 point it will strip the bolt.
