The problem is your car just doesn't want a FRAM filter put on it...
Don't blame it
Most likely the drain plug was just overtightened last time it was changed.
Yes it is metric (as is 98% of the other nuts & bolts)
Don't forget to change the plug gasket too. Nylon works the best for this application. This could also be another reason why it is so tight.
I do not need to use jackstands to change my oil. I have no problem reaching the drain plug or filter.
