Just curious, have you ever lived in the nicer parts of L.A. or are you just talking about what you have seen downtown on a few and far between trip there?

Manhattan Beach is about 40-45 min (at least) away from the parts of L.A. that he would most likely work at. Not to mention the best night life is on the Sunset Strip. Which on a Friday or Saturday night would take an hour plus. But Manhattan Beach is a nice place though.
Oops I ment where you would likely work at.

I don't want to be in the valley, the ghetto, a high-crime area, etc. And I'd need to be able to find a 2-bedroom place for around $1100 or less. The closer to the beach, the better.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

p.s. If you're in IT and can hook a brother up with a job, even better.

Oh ya, forgot to mention DO IT. I moved to L.A. about a year ago from the Bay Area and haven't looked back. In fact after my friends have been down and partied with me they are now saving up to move down here. If you do move P.M. me and I will show you all the places where all the honies are at.

Santa Monica is pretty much out of the question for the price range you are looking for and orange county is in realistic driving conditions 1+ hours from L.A.. I live about 2 miles from the center of the sunset strip which is the best party location out there as far as clubs and bars go. I would say look into to the Hollywood, hollywood hills areas. Or even West Hollywood but you gotta to watch your backside there. You shouldn't have a problem finding an apartment in that price range in those areas. The crime rate is down in these areas also. My place is in a nice area and close to everything that you would want. Although it is about 20 min to the beach. Check Rentimes.com for appartment availability and prices. Hope this helps.

LOL! Good Heavens, when I said 1/2 hr. from Hollywood, I meant 1/2 hr. from Hollywood LATE AT NIGHT, when the clubs are open... ('tho I'm still 15 min. from the beach 24/7 unless there's a rockslide or something)

Daytime LA freeway traffic is a whole 'nother matter!!

I've lived in the "L.A." area all my life. Where you live ought to be determined by where you
work. Otherwise, you're liable to be driving half of your life to get to and from work. I work
near Manhattan Beach right by LAX. It's expensive. The whole South Bay (Palos Verdes in the south to
Santa Monica in the north) is expensive as long as you are near the ocean. Unless you are working
graveyard shift, if you aren't within 15 or 20 miles of your job, it could take you up to an hour (or
more) to commute each way depending on where your job is. If I could afford it, I'd live in Manhattan
Beach or El Segundo to be near work. Unfortunately, my ~$230K house in the San Gabriel Valley 40 miles
inland would cost ~$500K+ in either of those two towns. As far as a job, Computer Sciences
Corporation is probably the biggest IT outfit around these parts but they are always understaffed
and overworked. Everytime they get a new contract, they lay people off for some reason. They are
headquartered here in El Segundo.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Karl
