when/if my tranny goes i wont hesitate to sent it to level 10. these trannies suck, and cant handle much power. they are also veery unefficient. level 10 claims it to be more efficient, and can handle 600+ hp i think. can anyone say turbo 3L atx???

The list of parts replaced was pretty long. Now at 88k miles the transmission is acting up again --- rough shifting, etc. I'm hoping it's an electrical problem, but I'm ready to junk the car rather than spending another $3.5k on a rebuild.

I take it that in the first 4 years and 42k miles, you never changed the tranny fluid? Then you repeated the mistake after the first rebuild? If so, then as harsh as it might sound, you deserved it. 30k miles or 2 years whichever comes first, that's the recommended fluid change level; don't do it, you increase the chance of blowing up the ATX.

ah...This is according to FORD.

You should completely change the oil in a CD4E at least every 15,000 miles,
or less, if you want it to live a long life.

ATX Oil is definitely cheaper than a new trnsmission...

3 GRAND?!! Someone saw you coming. Must have been a Ford dealer or AAMCO (All Automatics Must Come Out). I've seen Contours in used car lots for that price that have fewer miles and a limited warranty. My wife had her's appraised at a Mazda dealer a few months ago and they only offered 2 grand for it and it only had 48k miles on it and is in good shape.

2X95SEs,

I suggest you do some reading in this forum.
The majority of prices quoted for REMANUFACTURED CD4E transmissions runs $2500 - $3000 INSTALLED.

This is NOT take out yours, rebuild it, and then reinstall it.
This is taking yours out,and replacing it with a like transmission,
that has been rebuilt with everything NEW and updated.

No one is getting ripped off.

although i think i have powertrain problems somewhere, they're not major and i think my tranny is in great condition for the miles. i'm lucky. though if my tranny went, i would either get a lower mileage contour or a level ten tranny. just not worth spending $3k on just a remanufactured tranny when i can get a whole car for that.
