Berb's stalling problem sound more like the torque converter lockup solenoid is sticking. The car gets moving fine, but when you decelerate the rpms drop and the car dies. A neutral drop eek will get it going, but so will letting the car sit for a little while. My guess would be that after everything in the tranny starts to cool, and some of the capicators in the ECU lose their power the circuit opens and unlocks the converter.

This was a problem on a GM car that I used to have. It was my parents car at the time (I was 17), their so called mechanic disconnected the overdrive. He thought that was all good. Well, it ended up frying the overdrive circuit in the computer. The repeated neutral drops broke all of the motor mounts and crushed a wiring loom. A different mechanic (family friend) found the problem and reccomended replacing the converter too. $900 later, I had a car again. smile
