Hey,
I got rid of my old exhaust setup, here are the reasons.
1) I got stop so many times from people saying there was something draging underneath.
2) when I was up in the north country (plattsburgh NY) there would be middle bumps in the road, thoughs bumps would rub on the exhaust, but if it was a bump that the tires hit to there would be no rubbing.
3) I had them done at a monroe shop up there and all they had was crushed bent.
4) Yo-Dude kicks A$$ and is cheap!
5) I got gains from the switch of exhaust, although I know if the duals were done right I probally would have lost power.
all in all, the cheapest setup is yo-dude, and it bolts right up. My thoughts are yo dude and an aftermarket y pipe or modified stock y pipe.
Thanks for the side skirts!
Micah

By the way guys, here's my 2" duals off of the car after it's first weld job. I've since added resonators in the intermediate pipe area because the mini-turbo mufflers were to loud by themselves. NOTE: One side looks longer than the other only because the last mandrel bends are adjustable and and do not look that way once adjusted on the car...

anyone?? I'm tryign to order parts and need to know about the flexpipe. It reduces engine vibratrations through the exhaust right?? So how long is needed. thanks,
Derek Johnson

They don't reduce vibration, they allow for the motor to rock which in turn require the pipes to be able to flex. I used 8" long flexes as they won't bind up under the rocking of the engine.

Basically the longer the flex joint the more movement it can withstand without failure.
Also the less movement is transfered to the exhaust manifold studs (i.e. broken studs)
Why is that? Because the exhaust is mounted in a fixed position so something has to give when the engine rocks back & forth. (and boy does it ever) The exhaust mounts have very little movement so if the flex joint can not compensate then another point will.
I chose 8" flex joints; that gives about a 5" actual flex piece. Larger then the tiny ones Brad used. Those are the smallest size. 5" or 6" IIRC. However he had solid engine mounts to so he could probably get away with them. Lucky so-and-so...

3" actual flex joint on mine... Size matters! But in the spy world, it's reversed... They do decrease engine vibration! The first test pipes I made were solid and that thing BUZZZZZZZZED like a mutha!!!

I like the Duratecs that have no flex pipe, spring bolt is the way to good! Think about it, if crush bend is bad... those ripple in the flex pipe is like 100x worse.

That is just not true!
You should really look at the inside of a well made flex joint. It's a complete flat rolled coil that retain the inner diameter.
There is no loss of diameter or multiple ripples at all.
