This sacrifice causes the car to run in limp mode. (I.E. very rich! drops power!)
Build some MIL Eliminators. Easy, cheap and very effective.

Absolutely no need for MIL eliminator, there is no pre-cat efficiency monitors on the 95's.

Yes it is "technically" possible to build your own downpipes from mandrel bends but it would take several bends (figure around $50 in bends) and would be very messy and easy to screw up (uneven inside!)
Also you would need to weld on spherical flanges to be able to mount them to the manifolds/headers.
Actually the manifold pipes are quite, quite easy to build. I had a local shop stub out two pipes for me with 45 degree flanges pressed into them. Cost all of two bucks. Then, I used a 90 and two 45's to make the front one. The rear one, I used a 90 cut off just a touch early... I could have used a custom bend from West Coast bending in retrospect... about a 75 degree bend or so is needed. Welded an O2 bung (another buck) to the rear pipe after I was done tacking it in place. Took an entire afternoon to finish the rest of the system. Total cost was under $300 for the entire system in 2" piping, including cheap mufflers.
The hangers are easy as pie. Get a cold rolled 3/8" steel rod from Home Depot or the like and bend your own hangers after tacking the pipes in place.

I didn't like the idea of the exhaust being the lowest thing under the car. Straddle one high center point and put a hot exhaust through a plastic gas tank??? I don't think so...

Micah tried running it straight and under the gas tank. Ask him how he liked it. I personally don't like the pipes hanging so low.

96zetec,
You should check out the Tuffy that just opened Monday on Broad and Waggoner. They have a mandrel bending machine and a variety of pieces over there to put together an exhaust.
I'm taking my Mustang over there for exhaust work and am considering having them do a y-pipe optimization for the 'Tour.
