I have a 96 Mystique... V6, ATX. This morning going to work... a 3 mile drive... the car developed a strange humming sound and the O/D on/off light on the dash was flickering on and off. I let the car down shift, by stepping on the gas.... and shift was very harsh. Now at lunch, on the drive home, no problems. Any idea what was happening this morning? Thanks, Roy

Hi Roy,
First check the Transmisison fluid. It is the yellow dipstick just to the left of the Brake Cylinder. Chek it with the engine running and the transmission in PARK. It should be betweeen MIN and MAX and should be a bright RED color.
If it is a dark red or a brownish color, it needs to be flushed.
Has your transmission ever been serviced ? How many miles do you have on your Mystique ?

IIRC- that signals that the transmission is over heating. I would check the fluid and also check your cooling system because the transmission has a cooler mounted in the bottom of the radiator to provide cooling to the trans.
Kharma is very real and she is one mean b!tch.

The radiator tank on the right - hand side side of the radiator contains a transmission oil cooler for the automatic transmission fluid (if equipped). From Tech CD
