the cost comes in a lot of labor. You just cant put on a bolt on set of hinges. You have to recess them into the old doors. Strengthen the posts/1/4 panel the doors will be hung on and make new latches to hold the darn things shut. Suicide door open backwards not tilt forward. You figure about 20-25 hours a side and I hope you wand the door jambs resprayed. It all add up.

I've always heard that these doors were referred to as "scissor" doors.
As far as suicide doors, four-door Thunderbirds from '67-'71 had these style doors. The new Rolls-Royce Phantom will have them too.
By the way, I've heard an old-timer remark that suicide doors and women with short skirts make for interesting viewing.

yeah those are called lamborghini doors. i'm talking about suicide doors that open up backwards. you guys are going to trip out when you see it, i'm just going to have the back 2 doors open like that. on a 4 door sedan having suicide doors on the front and back wouldn't look right imho.

I was thinking about taking the middle piece out between the doors but if I was to do that it would complicat things so much more.

OK here is a common sample of where you can see suicide doors go watch the matrix that car that they have on there has suicide doors. And I know most people have seen that movie so yeah thats where you can see some. Yup it would be kick ass to see them on a contour.

Some ppl keep forgetting that there is no 1/4 panel to put the hinges on to make the rear doors open backwards. You would have more luck "Gull winging" all the doors than to put on a hinge that won't hit your tires.

Gull wing doors is what these are called. the guy above me got it right, they firs appeared long long time ago in the old Mercedes i believe.

I believe honkeytonk monkey posted about some canadian made cars with gull doors. he said they were electrically operated and eventually failed and if one wouldn't open, the other wouldn't either or something like that. crazy canadians.
