(I am in no way arguing the fact that the main cat is restrictive or saying that I wouldn't do this if I could) As long as you know they will pass your car when it comes inspection time. Here in Plano it would pass this year because all they do for emissions is hook up to the computer, next year they are supposedly going to start looking under the car. I have been told a few times that the rule in TX is that no cat can be removed from the car legally, it can be replaced, but not removed. Now the question is, will you ever have any problems from removing it? In the city, maybe...(mainly because shops won't touch the cats) in the country, I highly doubt it. From what I understand you would have to run across someone at inspection time that knows the car is supposed to have 3 cats and not 2.
I have 2.5" pipe for my single exhaust, I couldn't imagine trying to fit dual pipes that size. As far as glass packs, I had them and disliked them. The sound was not consistant and it just did not "feel" right. I have now switched to a magnaflow and love it.
