I was wondering if anyone out there has any knowledge of stand alone engine management systems.. I am basically wondering if I were to install one would it be able to bypass the PATS system on my car? I am really tired of paying the dealer 3 to 400 everytime my pats system decides to take a crap. Plus in the future I intend on making my car a race car and doing all sorts of mods.. any help???

Tec2 or 3 goes along with the factory ecu. so you can retain factory options. Like the alarm and all the other nice features. I don't know much about the motec setup. I'd go with either one if I had the cash.

Yeah, Motec only cost about $3k and you only need to wire everything all over. Realistically, get one of those PATS bypass module. It'll be a lot cheaper and easier.

I wish I could do the PATS bypass module but you have to be able to start and program the module in order to use it. ALl I get when I use any of my keys is a fast flashing red security light on my dash and the engine does nothing but keep turning over.. scanner says no signal from PATS system. So I guess I am screwed unless I take it to the dealer for the 6th time and pay another 400 bucks....I love my SVT but its really startin to piss me off. Maybe I should just part the damn thing out...

I just had my pats redone for 37.50. Is your whole system shot?

Why do you have to pay again. Sounds to me like the dealership isn't getting the job done on the repair. Doesn't their repair work come with any kind of warranty?
I think I'd go in there and speak with the service manager, show him the receipts and say, comeon guys, this is really embarassing for you that you cant get it fixed. Tell him you've done your part by returning to them and ask him if your check/cc bounced. Bottom line, if your money was good, the repair should be good as well.
If this doesn't get the right results, offer to share the story about their competence with customers in the showroom on a busy Saturday, complete with copies of your service tickets (address and phone# blocked out of course) to any customer that might be considering purchasing a vehicle from this fine Ford dealership.
Tell the SM, you would like to work with him, and not get the attention of others.

I agree with tboner. I would go back to the dealership and demand they fix it right and for no charge since they can't get it right the first, second, and who knows how many more tries. If they don't want to fix the car then Start talking to the customers to let the know the FINE work they do at the dealership and let them know how they put their customers first.

LOL spoke to dealer today, they told me the problem is due to me messing with the stereo wiring and interfereing with other wires in the dash. Quote " Your making it all discaboobilated" End quote LOL. I found a computer on the internet that was designed for locksmiths that taps into pats... erases everything and reprograms all keys.. I may buy it use it on mine and I know a bunch of other people who only have one key left I could program keys for.. get my money back and maybe make a buck or two.. also have it for my car in case it happens again in the futuree... I would do the dealer thing but I am really tired of towing my car screwing up my ground effects.. especially with Eibachs on it, and tow truck drivers who do not give a S*#t whatsoever... I dunno who knows.. I will let you all know what I do and how I cure this.. thanks for all of the input it is greatly appreciated!!!

I think it is your dealer who is disconbobulated. How many folks on here have aftermarket stereos and don't have PATS issues.
Not to mention there should be no interference if the stereo is turned off. (Electrical things can typically only interfere when they operate, LOL.)
Sounds like you dealer doesn't want to work on your car any more, so maybe it is time to get some sanitized copies of those reciepts and start hanging out in the show room on busy Saturdays and share your experience and lame excuses with potential customers.
You might PM BigJim and ask if he's heard of stereo gear interfering with PATS. He's seems like a pretty good Ford Service Manager.
At the very least, I'd go back to the actual SM again (and not a service writer who probably doesn't know the Otto Cycle from a Bicycle) and tell him you think his explaination was full of BS since the problem occurs with or without the stereo, and the general lack of other car enthusiasts with audio gear having this problem as well.
Just explain that they are losing a most likely young customer who, if he had a great ownership experience, could tell everyone what a wonderful dealer they were and would encourage other young folks who will need to buy lots of cars throughout their lifetimes to shop here as well.
Instead you have another story to tell about them.
Ask him if he's heard of the internet, and how a story can be seen by almost everyone in the US?
But most importantly, be polite. You want him working with you, if you want him to help you. That's basically how it works. Set fair expectations, and if he counters with anything, explain that he has to do more than just say something now, he has to prove it to you, since your trust is shaken from the repeated visits to fix something.
I'll bet it was the first time they told you about the stereo gear too. Ask him why he didn't tell you about that on the very first visit? I thought they were supposed to be providing service.

One key can be reprogrammed through a sequence. I haven't confirmed it but I hear the operation is listed in the owners manual. That still doesn't explain why I paid $37.50 for a pats reprogram and you are paying 400.
