It states right on the SVT's gauge cluster to use premium fuel. It also states it in the supplement manual. I think someone doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

how do you know he has a svt? if it's a normal contique, use 87. I've tried various grades (now use 93 due to chip) and 87 works best.

Rule#1 Dealers Are the enemy

Rule#2 Anyone who listens to the dealer must put down the crack pipe and step awa from the computer.

Half the time, they say things because they don;t know or they just want you to come back and get there money.

Higher Octane fuel helps with pining and detonation.

But it is also true that our cars can only use up to a certain octain. Anything higher than that point will not damage the car, but it just won;t be effective.

What that point is I don;t know.

just reread you use nitrous, keep using 93, it won't hurt the engine.

using 93 will not harm the engine, of course it may not be needed though. If you have the SVT you should use 93 octane though, if you read the manual or look on the fuel gauge you will notice that.

So what is it that requires the SVT to use premium?
Is it the slightly higher compression ratio over the standard V6?

I believe the SVT heads and cam are different, thus creating the .5 increase in compression...correct?

Compression and ignition timing. Cam does not affect octane requirement.

The higher compression ratio is the cause for the need for a higher octane. As far as I know the cam has no affect on it.

I sometimes wonder just what goes through the minds of someone that makes such a flippant remark. Do you want me to quit posting? Try thinking before you type. Do you have any idea how many dealership employees regularly participate here?
