Its been cold here in Ottawa, Canada the last few days.today's high is -20 C which I think is about -4 F.
My gas pedal was stuck at idle yesterday after work .I applied a small amount foot pressure and got no response. A vigorous shake up and down by hand loosened up the pedal and I was good to go.This has occured 2 out of the last three days.
Has anyone out there experienced this same problem and/or know why its happening?
Coincidently, after the first incident, my automatic shifter also has loosened up back to normal. It had been stiff to select from Park to Drive or Reverse and back to Park, although the transmission has worked fine.

The only time I experience that is when the heater is on high and you set it on the floor. And then I have to Floor is all the way.

This happend to me in my dads old contour with an ATX...I have a MTX and no problmes.

I know its a long way off, but try it on a semi warm day and put the heater on full....If it sticks then thats the problme. Weather its a actuall "heat" or temp problem I don't know. I could be something sticky or something that has to do with the computer.

Am I missing something ?

I'm thinking either the cable doesn't want to move, or the crud in the throttle body is making the butterfly stick. Carb cleaner will unstick the throttle body. In your weather, the cable should be replaced if it's sticking from cold.

this is more likely whats going on, in my experience...my throttle would stick after extended freeway ride...once i'd stop on the off ramp the pedal would stick when trying to take off again meaning i'd have to really nudge it a bit more than usual to take off...cleaning the throttle body and even the spring made the movement smooth again...i removed mine though as i was cleaning the egr stuff too...my throttle body was really filthy btw

maybe somehow there is condensation building up in the throttle cable and the cold temps is causing it to freeze or maybe it is binding up...the clutch cable on my gti 16 used to bind up and need replacement
