I had the recall work for the front springs of my '98 Mystique done a few weeks ago. That is the one where they put shields on the springs so that they don't puncture the tires when they break. Since then, I have noticed a low moaning noise when I hit a bump a certain way at low speed. It lasts a second or so. It is either a resonance or something rubbing--I haven't figured out which. Is the noise normal after this repair?

Oh, I also replaced the tires about a week before--Firestone Firehawk SS20s. They might be the source of the sound, but I didn't notice it until after the repair.

IIRC most of the time the spring shields rub the tires.
It's a very half-ass fix. They should have replaced the springs, but I'm sure they didn't want to pay for it on their dollar; the cheap bastages...

You can use the search one this topic to pull up info in detail...

I have experienced the same problem on my 98 Contour. When I first had the sheilds installed at the dealership, the car creaked and groaned while I was driving it out of the parking lot. They looked at it again, adjusted the shields, and handed the keys to me. Now the shields were rubbing the tires! Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with my local dealer. By the 3rd time they looked at it, they adjusted the shields and now strange noises. After a couple of days, the sounds returned. I will be complaining about it the next time I go back!
Is it just my imagination, or is the car a little harsh over bumps now?

I just had the recall done last week. I had to take the car back once for the metal rubbing. The dealer told me the just took a die grinder to the brace and took the sound away. I have noticed that the car seems to ride different over bumps now. This recall kind of ticks me off because this screwed with the handeling of my car. Did anyone hear about this before they took their car to the local dealer?

what recall!!!!!! my 2000 svt is in the dealership for the last 3 months getting its transmission repaired and i might as well get this done while they are screwing around with my car. what was the problem that caused the recall? sounds like i may not want this recall done if it makes the car worse.

This recall only affects certain year models (pre '00, I think.) At least I've had mine for over a year and no letter on the spring shields.

I think the spring shield recall is only for areas that use salt on the roads in the winter.

Everytime I had recall work done I collected new annoying sounds. The dealers are notorious for leaving stuff off like fenderwell fasteners and wire ties. Some from years ago are still there. mad
