My speedo jumped up to approx 40 after starting in the garage the other day.. now it does not work... no odometer either.

Has anyone run into this, and if so, what did you do to fix it?

I ran a search on speedometer and speedo, got hits, but no info on this....

THX!

my 2000 SE V-6 did a similar thing the 2nd day i owned it (about 4 months ago). I stopped at a red light and noticed my speedo jumping from zero to about 30 or so. It didn't do it after that day, but one day i removed my speedo to install some felt to cure a squeek and i put some dielectric grease on the conectors and inspected the wires for a short, but everything was A-OK. Today it did it again, "jumped" around every time i stopped. It was definately affected by my turn signals and i also noticed it happened if i turned the wheels and the rpm would drop it would jump. I don't have a schematic, but i suspect the printed circuit may be shorted. Any one else have any thoughts?

I fixed mine tonight. It got to the point where it would do it everytime i was stopped at a light and either had my a/c on or my turn signal on. Any kind of additional electrical load would cause it to jump. Other wise it worked fine while driving. I started hearing a strange whining noise about a week ago. Like the alternator. So i tested my battery which is rated at 590 cca, but only tested at 300cca. Installed a new battery, no more speedo jumping. It must have been causing glitches in the electrical system when the alternator was being strained.

Mine jumps sometimes when cold out - which is rare around here. Probably a cold solder joint in the artwork of the board.
