Recently i have noticed my battery light flickering when i am flooring the car. I do have a system, but it still does it when the system is turned off. Also of note is that my car has been less powerful than it should be, for example, an se modded slightly more than i am was able to pull on me. Is my system causing this, or are my old wires maybe not insulating correctly? I have no idea what could be wrong. Thanks

I have the same problem in my 1998 Zetec Contour. I just replaced the Mega fuse as per recomendation from another post. That did not help the problem! Arrg. Anyone have an answer? Alternator cuts out at high RPM? Just a thought.

Please help.

I have the same problem with my 98 zetec!! And I removed both the alternator and the battery and took them to Autozone and got them tested. They tested fine, so I am out of ideas. I also removed my mega fuse and it had no signs of being bad and I tested that and it was fine also. The guy at autozone said that they only test the alternators at like 2000rpms and mine might be cutting out at higher rpms...

Faulty alternator! Most likely the regulator is suspect.

Most "rebuilds" try to use the original voltage regulator to save money. The regulator is the #1 cause for failure. Unfortunately it fails first as you are describing. At high rpms under load. Followed by total failure.
Most rebuilders do not test their products to those conditions. Just under normal cruise conditions at a preset load and call it good.

I do know that Worldwide Products does. Each alternator they sell comes with a data spec sheet that shows the alternator's output plotted on a graph from 0 to 7000rpm plus.

Autozone & Advance carry this brand. Other's may as well???
NAPA, O Reilly's, Pep Boys, & CarQuest I know DO NOT! (Not that I'd even send an enemy to 3 of those places! NAPA's okay if you can get past their outrageous prices!)
