If start from a roll the svt should win without slicks.

rolling start for both or just for the SVT??? Either way, rear drag cars will get the jump on you, but front drive cars will always handel better in the turns....so its a toss up on what you want to give up....Now if its freeway speed (60mph) thats something that might be intresting....
Any thoughts?

No, they are easier for most people to handle in turns in case something goes wrong. Pushing a fwd car to the limits of adhesion and stepping on the gas doesn't result in a fish tail and 360's as easily as it will in a rear wheel drive. The problem with front drive is the forward weight bias. They both have advantages and in the hands of the right driver it is always a drivers game.
Personally I'd place my bets with an all-wheel drive with a 50/50 weight distribution... that'd be awesome.

Very good point......I totaly forgot about AWD....And I drive both RWD and FWD and your right it is a lot wasier to get contol of your car and not to fishtail.
Thats why i felt front was handeled better, but i forgot of the weight distribution.

I would without fail choose the rwd. It's true i have not had the chance to drive a world class awd car on the track (lancer), but from driving s4's and imprezas i did not come away impressed. Much like fwd cars they understeer badly, which i feel gives the driver less control. On a rwd car i know that i can modulate my cars handling successfully with the pedal. With fwd you are basically at the mercy of the car without resorting to dangerous techniques.

Most good all-wheel drives have a front/rear torque bias like 40/60 or similar. This helps allow using the gas pedal to control the turn or even slips and still alows some of the front-drive benefits. Also helps on acceleration since the weight settles onto the rear wheels.

well. from reading all your post, it seems to me, that you're looking at about 60hp advantage for the bmw, and about 1,000 pounds advantage for svt, I see a great race, with lots of weight resting on the drivers shoulders... would love to be at that race!!
