The above could be true, but even if it missed fired, your RPM's and speed would still be equal. And you wouldn't be able to reach your max RPM(fast atleast).
See with a bad wires, or plugs, your rpms and speed will still match, but you won;thave the power out put to reach your full potential and possibly your full RPM, but since your reaching your max rpm and not speed (assuming it sounds like your reaching you highest rpm) it is something else.
I say you might have a bad speedo....or maybe your flywheel could be damaged by the snow and salt covered roads.
