No. The valves are probably not causing the problem, its the piston or rings that are shot. Plus lets not forget the damage to other pistons that is not evident yet and is waiting to break the rest of the way.
IMO you need a new set of rings and/or some pistons and possibly valve work. The cost of this is so much that you may as well consider it 2 G's if you can't do the work yourself. Your options are new short block and a good valve job. This could be working toward a 3L where a 3L engine will run you $650-1100 depending on mileage and then you have the $300-$500 in valve/head work on top of that. Now while you have the engine out you may as well do the clutch which is $350-500 depending on brand. Add to that the misc. gaskets to the tune of about $400 and top it off with $1000 for labor.
That adds up to about: $2000-$3000
