Lots of us CEG'rs have OBD-II tools and would scan your codes for you. Also, if you aren't close to anyone most autozones (maybe not in CA anymore) will tell you your codes for free without selling you lots of parts in the process.
If it is your cats and you are under 80k miles the Federal 8/80 emission warranty will cover you so not to worry about that either.
