I know this is off the subject of tranny issues, but it could be the plugs. I am not sure how well the champions are, but most here will atest to the fact that there are really only two plugs that work worth a darn in our cars and that is Motorcraft and Autolite (double plat only of course).

Mine did the same thing (bucking at around 50mph, later also at around 80mph) about a week after I bought it. When I pulled the plugs, it had Motorcraft single plates in cylinders 1,3,4,5,&6 and a non-plat MC in cylinder 2. I changed the plugs and it has never returned.

Changing the fluid is very simple, as stated before, and something I would do just for the piece of mind. I would not think that you would want to change your filter unless you knew that it might be clogged or something has happened that would cause it to clog. Like say a differential going out or lots of trash in your fluid when you check it. I remember right after I bought my car, I went around to several places looking for a filter so I could change mine. I had no idea where the filter was. I just knew that I wanted to change it for the piece of mind. After going to every parts house in my county I finally went to the local dealer and the parts guy told me that they did not stock the filter. I asked why. He asked me why in the world I wanted to change it. At this point I was feeling pretty stupid, so I asked the next most stupid thing, "Why wouldn't I?". He laughed and told me the whole story and got the service manager to show me some information on the CD4E and that Ford does not even have a replacement interval for the filter.

I quickly took my ATX fluid home and was happy as a lark.
