I have a 1997 Contour LX with a 2.5 Liter Duatec engine. A while ago I had some problems with my Catalytic converter where it clogged up. It resulted in an extreme loss of power and in two hoses blowing off on a consistent basis. These are just two 1/4 inch hoses about 1 foot in length that come out of what looks like a sensor. The sensor is located right below the upper intake plenum on the drivers side and looks like a box with two hoses coming out of the bottom. Any way, I have replaced the main catalytic converter on the bottom of the car. My car now has all of it's power back but the hoses are still blowing off. I clamped the hoses off at both ends and they are fine until I hit about 4000 rpm and this will always blow off the bottom connection of one of the hoses. I know that I still have a clog in my exhaust system but I do not know where to look now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
EGR monitor, look for a clog down stream. iirc the egr tube comes after the pre-cats on the y-pipe. thats how it was on my lincoln. get new hoses they are a little stretched.
