FYI, misfire is an emissions issue. Unburned fuel due to misfire = high hydrocarbon emissions. The high HC levels can cause catalyst damage as well.

Bad O2 sensors are definately an emissions issue as air/fuel control will be effected, thus emissions could increase.

My CEL came on but the car began running poorly at the same time. I put on the new plug wires I had purchased but hadn't yet installed, and disconnected the battery. Car ran right and the CEL was out. cool I had performed a search on the forum here and the bad plug wires seemed the most common cause. Mine lasted 44,000 miles.
