Driving around in a parking lot looking for a spot when WHAM!!! A guy in a '01 Grand Am backed into me. Both the doors on the pass. side are toast. This is the 4th time I've been hit in 1.5 years. Time to sell the target. I'm looking at getting eithor a Santa Fe or a Vue. It was time for something bigger anyway.

So if any one is looking for a Contour with 4 new doors and a one year old front bumper and 1.5 year old rear bumper let me know

Santa Fe: well built, well laid out, but IMHO, funny looking.

Saturn Vue: I have read stuff on Lemon-Aid's web site that indicates this thing will fall apart if you close the door too hard. Stay away from it as though it were radioactive.

In that size range there is a lot of decent stuff out there. Take a peek at a Matrix or a Rav4. Even a Passat wagon is damn nice.

Maybe because it was black, my 98 seemed to be a target as well. Hit three times in two years. Twice while parked, once while stopped, as I watched some asshat turn in front of me assuming he had enough room. I watched incredulously as my suspicion was validated.

Join the Contique to Matrix movement! Well, maybe it's not a movement, more like a trend. OK, it's probably just me, but still...

I went in to the Toyota dealer to look at the Matrix. They didn't have one, so the friggen guy told me, what they are doing is selling the car sight un seen with a pending test drive condition. So he wanted me to sign the papers put the down payment and basicly pay for the car without even seeing the thing. Then when they get it in if I dont like it I could get my money back. So I said to the guy "Come on , do I look stupid?" and I left. So needles to say I would not buy a Matrix if it comes from my local dealer.

Yeah, availability is a big problem with the Matrix. Sorry, should have thought of that. Of course, the Vibe is the same vehicle in Pontiac cladding....I mean clothing....

Vibes are certainly more plentiful, but they cost more than a similarly-equipped Matrix.

Tell you what, go test drive a Vibe. Should drive exactly the same.

Vibe GT = Matrix XRS
Vibe base = Matrix XR or base

Now, expect to pay MSRP or close to it.

Another good car in the price range is the Subaru Impreza TS. Had a hard time choosing between it and the Matrix.
