Just a general update -

I had my 99 SVT in for state inspection last week in PA.

This includes an emissions test that connects the car's computer directly to a computer at our state capital. And also includes a tailpipe test. The inspection was performed at a suburban Phila Ford dealer.

The car passed the emissions test with MSDS headers (4 year old main cat intact). So if anyone is wondering, the car will pass.

A word of caution -> all emissions were low and passed easily except HC. The allowance was 0078, my car showed 0077.

A new cat and a tune up would would fix that.

Thanks,

The car was tuned just 5k ago.

It would probably be a good idea to spend the extra $ if going to headers for a new cat. Good thought.

Try cleaning the Throttle Body and the Intake Manifold.

I doubt that would help much in this case.
Main cat is just not as efficient after 4 years.

Heh, the inspector obviously doesn't know you removed a set of OEM cats, nor did he see the MIL Eliminators (both cause for failure). That inspection station is a keeper! Not that many (if any) inspectors would know to look.

Also, AFAIK, your car is never actually hooked to a computer. It's the smog sniffer computer that immediately uploads the results to Harrisburg. Although, we're in line for OBD-II smog checks, which will check for codes and OBD-II monitor completion in lieu of actually going on the dyno. Still at least 2 years off from what I'm told.

Thanks for the info PA 3L SVT.

The inspection station was a Ford dealer, I'm not past due until March. This dealer always has had something negitive to say about all my aftermarket "improvements". So I wanted to get inspected there because they've been tough about my car in the past. But it passed without a peep from from them on this.

You must bring that bad boy out for some autocross this year. Boeing & Camden are just around the block from Conshy.

2 years ago I was having problems with my LIFTED Grand Cherokee passing the I/M AND saftey inspection. I had "custom rock crawler exhaust" ( aka- muffler got ripped open on a jagged rock shelf while in Moab, so it was replaced with a straight pipe ) and it was lifted too high and I was throwing a code. After taking it to 3 shops and failing on the same crap, I was in at the local tire shop getting a new set of muds and they saw my Jeep was past due on the tag and asked if I wanted to get it done there. Since I do a lot of business w/ them it seemed to have "magicly" passed the I/M & saftey.

The moral of the story, become friends with your grease monkeys!
