if you are worried about what shape the cone is in the whole water pump assemble is about $130 from Ford. It also has the two hoses comming off of the housing.
When my father had to change his he flushed the system for a good 20 minutes with water.
Also a plastic impeller will be fine as long as it is white in color. After reading and asking some questions on the board it was found that 98 and older cars had the impeller fail, more then normal anyway. And on all acounts the impeller color was black. The new one from Ford was white and having asked someone with a 00 they said theres was white. this means that sometime in 99 they changed to a better plastic and that is what is sold now.
note the water pump is over driven from the cam shaft so would adding a greater mass of a metal pump really be good?
