Hey, I have 450 bucks to come up with a new exhaust system for my 98 CSVT. Should I go Custom , look for a used cat back system . I just dont know anymore. If custom , where should I go , and about how much should I expect to pay for what kind of materials and such. All I have done right now is the resonator has been replaced with a glasspack. PLEASE HELP!!! . I am looking for a moderatley loud , but mellow , low sounding system , with little or no rasp, and good gains THANKS Griffin

For simplicity's sake, I'd say Brullen. I found it hard to justify spending $450+ on a cat back with the same diameter piping as stock. The yo-dude is nice, but may be a little loud. Brullen is more expensive, but you can choose many different aspects of your purchase. I love mine.

Remember the way mine sounded?? What you could do is do a full exhaust (even Y pipe if you wanted), and only put a resonator in the middle with Y'd straight pipes out the back, I think that would sound the BEST. But just my opinion

I loved the way that sounded, but I feared it was going to be too loud once I put headers on. The Yo-Dude setup uses a muffler in the middle instead of a resonator. If you want a sound clip of a similar type of setup (2.5" tubing, 12" muffler in the middle, no rear mufflers), with a ypipe, see my registry info. (It's updating)

Ok I went to a local muffler shop , and he recommended 2 Magnaflow street series (14814 product number) mufflers. They are stainless, and have 31/2 inch chrome tips. he said that they would give me the best sound with out making it annoying , and they would get me some good gains. He said that there really isnt much point in replacing the stock piping thoguh. He quoted me 320 bucks for the mufflers , and install. Will i like this? Is it a good deal , or should I just get a full cat back? I was also quoted by another guy 550, with aluminized piping, and magnaflow mufflers. What should I do , I also have some Bassani that has 14,000 miles on it for 400 that is an option. Please Help . Thanks Griffin

Mr. Muffler that stated "No need to swap the stock piping", doesn't really know the whole mandrel bending concept huh? How about the rear y split that cost you some ponies? Guess you should check into those before spending $320 on just mufflers huh? All the mentioned systems include mandrel bends, higher flow mufflers, and high flow rear y splits. But then the decision factor of cost+shipping comes into play. I have offered to set Mr. Cincy up with my Bassani for $400 shipped. Decisions, Decisions....Hell, I currently own 3 different exhaust systems:Bassani(for sale), 3" Yo-dude(turbo setup), and a 2.5" turbo back on my wifes Jetta. All three are high quality, but the Bassani is proven on the N/A cars to make damn good power. Shoot, the only reason my Bassani is for sale is that it will not reap the highest gains on my soon to be F/I setup....that's where the 3" comes into play. The 2.5" on the Jetta is a quality peice with nice welds/piping, but I've yet to see dyno proven gains on the Brullen line.....for the Tour anyway.
