What elevation are these 14.1 and 14.08 ET's being run? I am in AZ and we are about 1200-2000' ASL. Back east, on a stock car I ran a 15.2. I can't get better than 15.60 here. I get my Vortech installed this week and I would like to see low 14's to high 13's, but this seems unlikely. I won't do the sea level calculation nor will I use a G-Tech. What experience have people had with the S/C at elevation?
I believe that I will be the first to Vortech a Contour, in AZ. Of course there is always the Turbo Project car here.

I ran mine in Kansas City, Missouri. Not sure how to find out it's elevation. I will look around and let you know.

Are you and Chris gonna do a little head to head action at the strip? I wonder who's going to win.
Anyway, I finally tuned in my car since I went to the drag strip with you last and my times went down a bit. Let me know how it goes.

Absolutely, given the chance. He has really nice torque numbers and I have the Quaife and CF Clutch... He has some plans that will probably make a HUGE difference though. I guess that all this talk means nothing until I get my S/C out of the box and into my car. I have an appointment on Tuesday. I am hoping that by Thursday I will be ready.

Awesome. I wish you the best of luck and Chris too. BTW, you'd better post some good numbers or by the time I come back on leave I'm gonna embarrass you both.

We'll have to plan that for this summer all three of us up at the strip whoopin on the gt's and camaros.

However it is going to slow down acceleration in every gear as a drawback! (less torque multiplication factor)

I found the change from 215/50 (yes quite worn out) to 225/50 changed the "effective" final drive more then I would have figured! Also the fact that BFG under rates the diameter of their 225/50 KDW tire quite a bit!

The added traction is great though, but I could not see dropping to a Zetec gear without some major power adding. (I.E. Forced Induction! Not just a 3L!)

I've got proof of dropping 60 foot times using a taller gear ratio on street tired cars. My car has problems hooking up 235/40/17's as I did on these other cars and I would expect the same results doing a gear swap on my car. Sure, third, fourth, and fifth would suffer, but who cares... as long as I win the race. Take the torque away from the tires and they stop spinning which equals more forward motion. If you can't hook them up, lower gears get you nowhere in a dragrace but on the trailer early.

Even with the added power of the 3L or FI you will have to slip the clutch more for quick launch or the tires will spin just like with the stock gearing only faster and further. It will be harder on parts because the weight of the car is the same as before but now has less gear to help get it moving. If you want to keep from spining put better tires on and work on tuning the suspension. If I was going to make my car into a dedicated drag car I would be looking to use lower gears so it could be quicker off the line and use all of 4th gear instead of just shifting into 4th.

THis is the crazy thing, CB99 pulled a 14.53 with just some bolt ons with the CSVT. . .while the best an SC-CSVT can pull is a 14.1. . .???? Anybody see a problem?
You dump nearly 6K into installing and getting a FI on your car, but because our car can't fit fatter tires, there's no traction and you barely get -.4sec on the .25?? I'm starting to wonder if the real world application of FI/3L is even worth the effort in our cars. . .it doesn't seem like you can feel it around town. . . [flame suit on] correct me if I'm wrong. . .

the big benefit is when not starting in 1st gear. Imagine a contour pulling a 14.1 with no traction in the first 3 gears. It would murder almost everything on the freeway!
