No, I don't believe Tom has hardend gears, but he's also running shorter gears and short slicks which ease the situation. Once he gets his taller slicks on, he may have to be careful. Leo Capaldi has stripped more than one set of gears out after installing bullit proof trans and axles into his touring series Cougar. Fix one weak link, you find three others!!!

Yes, something does exist. It's the Bulldog Box from Terry Haines, or "HMS" (Haines Motor Sports). He's on fordcontour.org forums quite a bit, but he's not over here any more that I know of.
