wow, a couple of illinoisians on this board!

i've gotta be careful w/ this reply as i am new to the board and don't know your current equipment or car audio knowledge. here is the usual list of questions i ask:
  • what is your budget?
  • what amp brand/model # will you be using?
  • how much room do you plan to give up?
  • sealed or ported?

Well i havnt heard any downsides twards audiobahn (besides ur opinion) and ive never even heard of adires...?

Audiobahn products range from poor to pretty good. They tend to be a little bit generous with their power handling specs. I wouldn't rank them in the top of the subwoofer class by any means, but they do offer some decent values in the midline products.

Adire Audio www.adireaudio.com makes the Brahma, which you won't find in many stores. They have a new motor technology that flattens the BL curve, thus substantially reducing distortion at the limits of its excursion. The result is an outstanding combo of SPL and SQ. The original models had some lead slap issues, but that appears to have been resolved.

I would say the new JL W7's are by far the best subs ever made. high dolla though.

You could make the argument that they have marginal advantages over the Brahma, but the Brahma also has some marginal advantages over the w7. The are not "BY FAR" the best sub. No sub can make that claim with the market getting so much better, so quickly.

I would agree with any JL AUDIO sub to be very clean and deep bass. if you want a real system that is.

Audibahn hits hard and Kicker USED to hit hard but dont touch them now lots of shops stopped carrying them because their quality went down and they have had lots of problems. Infinity Perfects are pretty deep also, pretty efficient also.

Kicker still makes good products, even if they aren't my choice, they are still doing well in competitions.

You are right, but you have to ask the question, how many subs do those guys go through ? They used to be about 5 years ago AWESOME. but quality sucks now, and they dont sound right. Not like my 2 12's did. those solobarics suck to in my opinion.

I am definetly no car audio buff... but I do know what sound good so that's what I'm going for... good sound. The whole reason I want a sub is because I feel like my car audio is missing something (namely Bass). So I'm trying to fill that void.

Right now all I have is Pioneer HU DEH-P4400, stock front speakers and MB Quart DKD 157 rear speakers.

I don't have an amp yet...

Obviously I can't spend a whole bunch of money, so be realistic. Probably somewhere around $400-600 (including amp... I know that's kind of a tight budget, but it's what I got.)

I don't even know what "sealed or ported" means...

And I have a whole entire CSVT trunk to work with
